Yes i have.
But for the user it would be better to show in the status bar that an active
connection is established.
So the usablility would be better.

I would like to vote in favour of the same thing. I'm using VPN's mainly to
connect
to customer networks, so I'll connect and perform an action and disconnect. I
don't
want to stay connected for hours, so I'd appreciate a permanent status item. I
would
expect that you can pull it up and it brings you to the screen where you can
disconnect.
