osmapa-garmin

A complete environment setup for producing and sharing maps of Poland for Garmin GPS receivers using OpenStreetMap data, called OSMapaPL (available at https://garmin.osmapa.pl).

It consists of a toolchain (mkgmap, mkgmap styles, TYP files and helper scripts) used to compile maps, helper scripts to automate the process and code for a webpage to ditribute the maps.

Requirements for the toolchain

Windows

Install Python 3.
Install Java.

All other tools are present in the bin/ directory.

Linux

Install Python 3.
Install Java.
In addition to Python 3 and Java, additional tools must be available in the PATH:
- zip
- osmconvert and osmfilter
- nsis

Here is how you can install all required components on a Ubuntu system:

apt install zip
apt install default-jre
apt install osmctools
apt install nsis

Data files

Several required data files are not included in the git repo due to their size. You must fetch them manually and place in correct paths before running the toolchain.

OSM/coastlines_europe-latest.osm.pbf
OSM/srtm_polska.pbf
bounds/*.bnd (http://osm.thkukuk.de/data/bounds-latest.zip)

Usage

python3 -u ProduceDistributionsPL.py

documentation missing

Is tt documented somewhere how one may generate new maps?

Brak transparentności w warstwicach

Dzień dobry,
Próbowałem już kontaktować się w tej sprawie z @atalarczyk na discordzie OSM Polska jakiś czas temu, niestety bez odpowiedzi.

W skrócie chodzi o to, że mapa warstwice, przykrywa inne mapy pod spodem, przez co nakładając warstwice na mapę, nie można sprawdzić szczegółów obiektów na mapie pod spodem.

Po znalezieniu tego repozytorium, i przeanalizowania konfiguracji, wydaje mi się, że warstwice, podobnie jak szlaki, powinny mieć dodatkowo w konfiguracji (https://github.com/basement-labs/osmapa-garmin/blob/master/config/osmapa_warstwice.config) parametr transparent.

@ttomasz widzę że jesteś najaktywniejszym contributorem na GitHubie z tego repozytorium. Czy zmiany w pliku konfiguracyjnym warstwic automatycznie wpłyną na kolejne wersje plików map na stronie https://garmin.osmapa.pl/?

Please, please add a license. The fact none is listed makes using this software a legal quagmire. Currently it is not legal to use this code or its derivatives in any useful software. I may be mistaken but hopefully this is not the intended effect.

Currently no license is mentioned anywhere, what makes this code fully copyrighted, like any other creative work.

It limits usefulness of this project - and I hope that it is unintentional.

In case that for some reason not releasing it under open license is intentional - mentioning it in the readme also would be a good idea.
