currently I have separate functions for loading and saving vectors:

load_text_vec(...)
save_text_mat(...)

these could be combined into one if I can determine whether a template variable is a vector or a matrix.

Eigen could be optional, but if omitted the library will rely solely on standard library constructs (std::vector, std::span)
or even just pass in iterators to be as generic as possible.

Some optional things may require Eigen, such as when math is involved, as expression templates are very fast.
