Currently it handles this in a sort of mixed way:
- Options for the main window are saved as part of the scene.
- Options for object editors are saved to preferences, so when you open a new one it has the settings from the last object editor you worked in.
Possibly not an ideal solution, but it was a very simple way to do it that usually produced the desired result. In both cases, though, it probably saves a lot fewer settings than it could.

Have the object editors fit the views to the object, the first time it is opened
Might be best to just have the editor windows "Fit to Object" Every time they are opened, as right now view orientation is not saved even within the same session. I don't know if I see adding per-object metadata for that? Or would it be easy enough to implement?
