Any idea what shortcuts might make sense in Afrikaans?

Shouldn't shortcuts be the same regardless of the language?

ED: Had a quick look at the Afrikaans translation. Mostly the shorcuts are the same as in the default set. Only a random few have been changed to match the first letter of the translated command name. I think it'd be best to unify those with the defaults.

If that were the case, they shouldn't be in the translation set at all. These shortcuts are supposed to be Mnemonics, which means that the "logical" shortcut will vary language to language. Of course, that puts us in "This" position when several menu options start with the same or similar letters.

I wonder if there's any sort of common pattern in other software?

The general pattern is what I said before.

Shortcuts

In languages with a an entirely different character set that might be a different case but generally speaking changing the international defaults is only confusing to users. There are no benefits in it, what so ever. It messes up your motoric routines and you'd have to learn different shortcurs on different software (and for many software there may not even no translations avalable) That just does not work. It is best to keep the shortcuts same between all SW that you use.

In the first (partial) Finnish translation of AoI shortcuts were changed to the first letter of each command but we changed them back to defaults. I have not heard any complaints and I have not seen them changed from defaults in any other SW either.

EDIT: And repeating the earlier, in the Africaans translation most of them are not changed. Only a random few, so I'd say there most probably is no localized standard for Africaans, which is what this would require. It is just what, who ever was working on the translation, came to think of at the time.....

RE-EDIT: Typos and tautophony....
