apsoil's Issues

Problems with installation

From Fernando:

  1. If I try to download APSoil through the upgrade page the attached date is 2013-05-31, which I suspect might be wrong, since the latest version seems to be the one below.
  2. Here (https://www.apsim.info/apsim-model/apsoil/) the latest version of APSIM has an attached date of 2015-05-22.
  3. When I try to install it, I receive a message saying that .NET framework needs to be install, but the automatic redirect ends up in ‘page not found’.
  4. I am able to install it, of course, by upgrading .NET from Microsoft, but I thought I would provide this feedback in case it is useful.

KMZ download no longer works

Try clicking the 'Click here to view the APSOIL database in Google Earth' link on https://www.apsim.info/apsim-model/apsoil/
(which opens https://apsimdev.apsim.info/ApsoilWeb/ApsoilKML.aspx )
It no longer downloads the full KMZ file, but instead a zipped version of the following kml (ie. empty of any soils):

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<kml xmlns="http://earth.google.com/kml/2.2">

Issues with KMZ download

Hi, I am trying to download the KMZ file to view the soils in Google Earth as my existing copy of this file is not longer working correctly.

When I click the 'Click here to view the APSoil database in Google Earth.' link on the APSoil page, the link never loads and eventually returns a site can't be reached error. I have tried this in several browsers and on another computer with the same problem each time. Is the download not working at the moment/ is there another way to get access to this file?

Thank you in advance!

Strange MWCON values in Medium clay (Mona Park No820)

This profile has a value of 0.02 only for the 4th layer, which causes soil water to back up under heavy irrigation. This can lead to significaitnly large amunts of denitrification (Table 2 in Thorburn et al., 2011; see denitrification values in 'Mona Park'). I wonder if this is correct/intended.

Develop a simple soils upload web page

This is to allow users to upload a spreadsheet of soils (in apsoil xlsx format).

  • The page would need the uploaders email address.
  • The page would have due diligence/legal statements, tick box – confirming their rights to contribute data.
  • The page would then send the soils via email to the APSIM email address.
  • The soils would then be manually checked by a 'soils expert' and once happy, be incorporated into APSOIL.
  • At some point in the (near) future, the checking process in the dot point above would be automated as much as possible. This will require funding.

Need a few new entry points

The Apsoil web service has a rather long history, covering a period of time in which the underlying Apsoil format has changed. As a consequence, some of the functions expect data in one of the older formats, rather than the current one. As far as I can determine the different file formats include an old JSON version, an XML version, and an updated XML version. The older formats need to continue to be supported, as existing apps may rely on those formats. However, adding a few additional entry points to better support the "new" XML format will simplify development of new apps, such as an updated version of SoilMapp. Specifically, functions are needed to allow uploading of user soils in the "new' format, and also to allow the generation of PNG charts based on that format.
