Volt Dashboard - Full-Stack Starter generated by AppSeed.

โœ… Environment

To use the starter, Python3 should be installed properly in the workstation. If you are not sure if Python is installed, please open a terminal and type python --version. Here is the full list with dependencies and tools required to build the app:

  • Python3 - the programming language used to code the app
  • GIT - used to clone the source code from the Github repository
  • Basic development tools (g++ compiler, python development libraries ..etc) used by Python to compile the app dependencies in your environment.
  • (Optional) Docker - a popular virtualization software

โœ… Start in Docker

๐Ÿ‘‰ Step 1 - Download the code from the GH repository (using GIT)

$ git clone https://github.com/app-generator/flask-volt-dashboard.git
$ cd flask-volt-dashboard

๐Ÿ‘‰ Step 2 - Start the APP in Docker

$ docker-compose up --build

Visit http://localhost:5085 in your browser. The app should be up & running.

โœ… Create .env file

The meaning of each variable can be found below:

  • DEBUG: if True the app runs in develoment mode
    • For production value False should be used
  • ASSETS_ROOT: used in assets management
    • default value: /static/assets
  • OAuth via Github
    • GITHUB_ID=<GITHUB_ID_HERE>
    • GITHUB_SECRET=<GITHUB_SECRET_HERE>

โœ… Manual Build

Download the code

$ git clone https://github.com/app-generator/flask-volt-dashboard.git
$ cd flask-volt-dashboard

๐Ÿ‘‰ Set Up for Unix, MacOS

Install modules via VENV

$ virtualenv env
$ source env/bin/activate
$ pip3 install -r requirements.txt

Set Up Flask Environment

$ export FLASK_APP=run.py
$ export FLASK_ENV=development

Start the app

$ flask run
// OR
$ flask run --cert=adhoc # For HTTPS server

At this point, the app runs at http://127.0.0.1:5000/.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Set Up for Windows

Install modules via VENV (windows)

$ virtualenv env
$ .\env\Scripts\activate
$ pip3 install -r requirements.txt

Set Up Flask Environment

$ # CMD
$ set FLASK_APP=run.py
$ set FLASK_ENV=development
$
$ # Powershell
$ $env:FLASK_APP = ".\run.py"
$ $env:FLASK_ENV = "development"

Start the app

$ flask run
// OR
$ flask run --cert=adhoc # For HTTPS server

At this point, the app runs at http://127.0.0.1:5000/.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Create Users

By default, the app redirects guest users to authenticate. In order to access the private pages, follow this set up:

  • Start the app via flask run
  • Access the registration page and create a new user:
    • http://127.0.0.1:5000/register
  • Access the sign in page and authenticate
    • http://127.0.0.1:5000/login

flask-volt-dashboard's Issues

Settings Form fill control

Hello, how to add a function for settings form filling control?

@blueprint.route('/settings', methods=['GET', 'POST'])
@login_required
def settings_form():
print(request)
return render_template('settings.html', user=current_user, form=form)

never works even if I add in route_template(template) condition for settings.html page:

    if segment not in ['settings.html']:
            return render_template( template, segment=segment )

Thanx in advance

CSRF Error on fresh instance

Hi,

I am trying to run the app locally and haven't been able to push past this error:

RuntimeError: A secret key is required to use CSRF.

I tried setting the secret key manually in run.py with app.config["SECRET_KEY"] = "test" and trying to change the value in the .env file but nothing seems to change or work.

At this point I'm still new to Flask and web development in general so forgive me if the problem is trivial.

Thanks

ImportError: cannot import name 'Binary' from 'sqlalchemy'

Binary should be changed to LargeBinary in the file models.py to work on newer versions of sqlalchemy

Navigation for medium size screens devices not showing menu elements

Hello,

When transitioning from top nav menu to hamburger menu on the theme's main page, the menu items are displayed with white font color on medium size screens, thus not causing contrast with the white background.

To replicate shrink the browser window to when the navigation menu changes to hamburger icon.

Plot Data on Dashboard

Hi , I was wondering how to implement a matplotlib plot on the dashboard with own data. Is there an easy approach ?

Cheers

icon not displayed

I am trying out the template from docker. I noticed that some icons in action column in Transactions page was not displayed.
