project-bolt-rats's Introduction

Escape from Scrapland

Gracie wandered too far into her uncle’s scrap yard. Surrounded by strange and scary creatures, Gracie must barter, build, and battle her way to safety. Meanwhile The Crane watches her every move. Will she make it?

Escape from Scrapland is a solo roguelike nanogame with 9 cards, 1 die, and some cubes.

The process of making this game is being documented for users of Squib.

Get the latest

  • Download rules.pdf, creatures.pdf, and resources.pdf from latest GitHub releases
  • Print them out. Be sure to turn off page scaling
  • Cut them up
  • Put them in 2.5x3.5 sleeves. Pay close attention to what card should be on the back of what (small text in the corner).
  • Don't have cubes? Use the coin_tracker.pdf and a couple of pennies and dimes to track your stats on a full sheet of paper instead.

Versions

v8.2 / 2017-09-12

  • Minor font improvements to the coin tracker PDF

v8.1 / 2017-09-11

  • Made a coin tracker PDF

v8.0 / 2017-09-06

  • Tape dispensor just wasn't cutting it. Replaced with Shiny Shiv to represent a more aggressive battle-heavy strategy
  • Oil Rag is cheaper so it doesn't compete with Tote Bag as much
  • Boosted HP of some creatures since Shiny Shiv allows for better battling
  • Ugly Sweater Ghost lowered HP to give people a reason to battle him
  • Made some Big creatures more tantalizing, like Sprocket Snake and Tap Spider
  • Nerfed a few "Have" powers like the Strong Magnet and Whacking Plank
  • Video: The Shiny Shiv!

No real substantive rules, other than lots of clarifications. Extra Challenges have evolved too.

See full changes: from 7.0 to 8.0

v7.1 / 2017-09-06

  • Rules are built to PDF using Prawn and Markdown
  • Cards are built to a PNP PDF - no more need for sleeves if you can print front-and-back!

v7.0 / 2017-09-01

  • Balance changes! We're starting to zero in on a stable game here.
  • Tape Dispensor is actually useful now!
  • Oil Rag is easier to get, which makes Minor Ductwork a tad less ominous
  • Ugly Sweater Ghost gives a nice defeat bonus (let's see more Sprocket Snake!)
  • Ugly Sweater Ghost got a Barter nerf too
