ruby-debug-pry's Introduction

This gem adds a "pry" command to ruby-debug.

To see it in action, run ruby examples/foo.rb and type "pry" at the debug prompt.

To use it in a project, add this to your Gemfile:

gem "ruby-debug-pry", :require => "ruby-debug/pry"

For more information on pry, read this article.

This has been tested on Ruby 1.8.7 p334 and Ruby 1.9.2 p136 and seems to work.

Future Steps

Right now I don't have any of the additional features that ruby-debug's IRB command has. I don't really use them, but it would be nice to have them.

  • next, step, and cont support
  • add autopry configuration variable
  • make debugger state accessible as a global variable

ruby-debug-pry's Issues

Gemspec and Pry version

Hi!

You have pessimistic versioning of Pry (which prevents use of pry 0.9 or newer):

gem "pry", "~> 0.8.3"

I'd like to report that I tested the code with pry 0.9.1, and it still works - could you please update accordingly? :)

debugger command integration

Hey guy, great work on this gem btw,

I was wondering if you'd consider integrating commands like next and step and so on into pry itself, and having pry actually wrap the debugger (rather than the other way round) for more seamless use?

THat would be pretty damn awesome ;) I contact the ruby-debug maintainer asking him how to go about accessing the next and step functionality, but he hasnt responded to me yet :(

anyway, just a few thoughts!

keep up the good work!
