I came across your excellent project a couple of days ago. I found that to work on Processing 3 you need to move the size function (used with variable parameters) to the settings() function to work.
eg

void settings(){
    size(SCREEN_WIDTH, SCREEN_HEIGHT, P3D);
}

and remove it from the setup() function.

This is a great little project. I am working with it, and adding colour and modes to offset the ellipses across the screen. I am looking at adding an OSCserver so that parameters can be changed externally, using it with Sonic Pi (sonic-pi.net)
