alt-f4's Issues

SCSS refactoring

Todo:

  • Add comments:
    • (Look for more places to add comments)
  • Replace repeated values with variables:
    • (Look for more places to use variables)

Optimise images

  • Use better format (JPEG 2000 / JPEG XR / WebP)
  • Compress images

Create an index for each post

Zirr had the idea to add an index alongside each post, with clickable links ofc, that the reader can refer to to get an overview of the content, especially since the posts can get quite long, like we found out. Here is the screenshot of Zirr's idea.

Localized time format

Dear devs :)
Some people have asked me to translate the release date format into the french format and not the english one: dd-mm-aaaa
Is it possible to adjust this kind of details? would add more to the depth of the translation effort
Thanks <3

Fix the release bot

Release creation bot needs to differentiate between languages and only post the English one if multiple are committed at the same time.

Improve mobile site

Make the site more mobile friendly.

Todo (things marked as done may or may not be in master yet):

  • Shrink translation button slightly on all screen widths
  • Reduce padding in navbar more on smaller screen widths
  • Remove gaps:
    • Between navbar and main panel at the top
    • Between the sides and the main panel at the side
    • Between the main panel and the footer
    • Between the sides and the footer at the side
  • Reduce padding of main panel and some inset panels
  • Make parts of the footer stack instead be next to each other inline
  • Only use larger background on larger screens
  • Fix YouTube embed height - https://fettblog.eu/blog/2013/06/16/preserving-aspect-ratio-for-embedded-iframes/
  • Adjust translate icon centering

Add a site icon

Currently the site icon is nothing, defaulting to whatever the browser chooses.

Fix discuss buttons

Small fix to discuss on Reddit and discord buttons to place text better inside the box

Differentiate the subheaders more

Currently, the two types of subheaders we use (## and ### in markdown) appear the same/very similarly on the website. This makes it hard to differentiate where a new submission starts, and what is just a subheader for the submission you're currently reading. Maybe there can be something done with the styling to improve this situation, either by text size or just adding a dividing line or something.

Update anchor styling

From #suggestions in discord:

  • "I would say first of all, it should be outside of the text, so left alighed as suggested already" - Lovely santa
    • Not sure this possible due to the general website design without adding a margin on the left which I doubt would look nice
  • "and then we should also only show it when hovered over the title" - Lovely Santa
  • Maybe also consider hiding anchors altogether for subheadings?
  • Similar suggestions have been made by Zirr and nicgarner also.

Darken the background image

Numerous feedbacks said that the background was too bright and was taking the attention away from the blog itself. Instead of altering the background image, an easy solution would be adding a semi-transparant black layer between the background and the actual site, similar to how the current header is also semi-transparant.
