deadbeef-virtual-bass-plugin's Introduction

This is a research project of a psychoacoustic bass enhancer based on following papers:

Basically, this algorithm adds some distortion to the low-frequency part of the spectrum in order to simulate missing low frequencies. TBH, if the distortion level is low then the bass enhancing effect is too subtle and if the distortion level too high then this is perceived as a distorted signal.

deadbeef-virtual-bass-plugin's Issues

Distortion

Hey
Interesting plugin. I have some question on its functioning.

When we set the crossover and the gain, there seems to be distortion. Apart from that not much bass is heard. Should this happen?

I presume this applies what is called a psychoacoustic bass boost, kind you find in MaxxBass, am I correct?

Is this normal?

I would also like to know about its functioning.
Can you point to some materials you may have bookmarked what is going on?
I know the harmonics are being extracted from the low end and boosted. I am curious on its implementation side?
I am not particularly well versed in C. So some steps you have taken to build this would be really helpful. Or at the very least it would be nice if you can add comments to your implementation.
