Hi,

Yes, you're exactly right about the problem. The original HTML parser
had some problems that were driving me crazy and it seemed to me at the
time that the solution was to switch to the HTML parser within LibXML2.
After that was done it turned out we just traded one set of problems for
another. :)

In LibXML2 I had to export as XML and deliver it to the browser as HTML,
which rendered 99% correctly in most browsers but with several bugs like
the one you're noticing (it affects several other tags beside iframe) -
or we could configure Apache to deliver it as XML which renders
"correctly" in terms of standards but almost no browsers (back then)
actually render the pages.

This was all years ago and both LibXML2 and browsers have likely
improved a lot. If LibXML2 now has a way to export as XHTML or HTML 5,
that would probably solve the problem. I'm not maintaining the code any
more (haven't even looked at it in several years) but if you've got a
patch for the problem I'd take a look. I've been thinking that it's time
to hand the whole thing (Advogato.org and the mod_virgule code) off to a
new maintainer who can devote more time to it.
