The Legend of Herobrine

Homepage: https://herobrinemod.com

Modrinth: https://modrinth.com/mod/the-legend-of-herobrine

The Legend of Herobrine is a mod designed for modern versions of Minecraft that aims to add Herobrine to the game with many new gameplay features while also fitting in with vanilla gameplay and keeping the scary theme surrounding Herobrine while remaining relevant and fun in larger modpacks. Currently in beta. Major bugs may arise!

This GitHub repository, the offical preview builds repository, the official Modrinth page, the official legacy (outdated) CurseForge page are the ONLY safe places to download this mod, any other sources should be considered packaged with viruses. Furthermore, If any newer version of this mod (Fabric 1.19 previews or newer) makes it anywhere other than my GitHub repositories, the official website, or modrinth, it should also be considered a virus, even if the newer version is on CurseForge. Viruses being spread through infected Minecraft mods have been on the rise, especially on shady websites, and CurseForge so please try to stay safe and download only from official sources.

How to build this mod from source:

Prerequisites:

JDK 17 (17.0.1 or newer): (Oracle JDK) https://www.oracle.com/java/technologies/downloads/#jdk17 (OpenJDK) https://jdk.java.net/archive/

JavaFX 17: https://gluonhq.com/products/javafx/

If you use GNU/Linux install the latest versions of JDK 17 and OpenJFX 17 from your distros package repositories.

(Windows Only) Add Java to path environment variable: https://www.javatpoint.com/how-to-set-path-in-java (Use second, permanent method)

IDE with Java support. I use Intellij Idea: https://www.jetbrains.com/idea/download/ (If you are using GNU/Linux your preferred IDE should be in your distros package repositories, if not see if they have an appimage or build and install it from source or choose an IDE available in your distros package repositories)

Building

Step 1: (Required) Download the source code of the desired branch as a zip file.

Step 2: (Required) Extract the zip file.

Step 3: (Required) Open build.gradle as a project in your IDE. This file is located in the base directory of the source code. In Intellij Idea press open and browse to where you extracted the code locate build.gradle and open it

Setp 4: (Required) In the gradle processes window sync/reload the project if your IDE doesn't do it automatically. In Intellij Idea it is the arrow circle button in the top left corner.

Setp 5: (Optional, Recommended) The gradle processes window should now be populated with directories and processes. Go to Tasks -> fabric and run genSources to generate the sources for Vanilla Minecraft. You may have to choose the sources file to use in your IDE. Choose the file with "-sources" appended to the end. Your IDE should be able to locate the directory automatically

Step 6: (Optional, Intellij Idea, Source Code Testing) If run configurations do not appear and you are using Intellij Idea go to Tasks -> fabric and run ideaSyncTask

Setp 7: (Required) In the gradle window go to Tasks -> build and run build. If everything is set up properly it should build the mod file.

Step 8: (Info) The jar file is located in .../build/libs/LegendOfHerobrine-VERSION.jar. You can install this file like any other mod.

Mobs not spawning (1.15.2)

I couldn't find any Herobrines in my world or infected mobs, I was on normal difficulty and tried spawning them in creative, didn't work, so I'm just wondering, what version of forge do you reccomend for this mod? And if it uses Fabric the mod page says otherwise.

Fog

It'd be interesting for randomized fog, it'd also make the mod a bit more spooky

Survivor Houses should generate in more reasonable ways

Currently, the Survivor Houses have no dedicated air around their outer fences, which often leads to them being embedded into hills and having the wall become effortlessly bypassable by all creatures in existence. Given that Survivors are designed after pro players, this seems unrealistic - surely a player who's experienced enough to construct a spiderproof wall, would think of excavating a wide enough trench in the hillside?

Another problem are the overhangs that occur when the Survivor House spawns in an area with higher hills, and lead to similar inconsistencies. However, I don't think much can be done about that, except maybe prohibit it from spawning in overly hilly biomes.

And a third worldgen inconsistency: When the Survivor House spawns slightly submerged into water, for the most part the water is removed inside, but the lamppost fences and similar blocks end up being waterlogged, creating a flood both around the garden and in the house itself. I doubt any player would shrug that away as a minor inconvenience, except maybe if they have Depth Strider boots.

Either way, these are some worldgen problems that clearly aren't bugs, but seem like design oversights to me. I'd appreciate if you considered improving upon this. (Sorry if this has already been addressed, I couldn't find anything in the open or closed issues.)

Not working on servers

I can't rclick the alter with the purple diamond, but me & my buddies just took a while getting altar & diamond because of the blaze powder & gold we needed.

It works fine on singleplayer, but won't work on server. :(

Stop spawning so many herobrines at once

So I had the thought that in herobrine lore, you don't come across like 4 herobrines at once so maybe consider removing the mage clone feature and stop them from spawning so close to each other. Also this is not a complaint just a simple suggestion so don't take it the wrong way, thanks :D

immortal baby hust

baby husks, only when spawning naturally, are immune to all forms of attack

To Reproduce
step one: have fun in minecraft
step two: find possesed baby husk
step three: contain the anomaly

Expected behavior
well i expected to be able to kill it

Environment

  • Minecraft Version:1.20.1

Infected Brown Mooshrooms create Red Mooshrooms when cured.

This bug is caused because the setMooshroomType function in MooshroomEntity has private access. This makes creating brown mooshrooms impossible outside of the MooshroomEntity class. This means that this bug can not be fixed until Forge makes the setMooshroomType function public.

fabric.mod.json bad formatting

Describe the bug
Due to the \n at the start of the contributors section in the fabric.mod.json the file produced has a new line in the middle of a string therefor is out of JSON specification and wont parse on many JSON parsers/validators

To Reproduce
Paste the `` from the compiled jar into a JSON validator (EG: https://jsonlint.com/)

Expected behavior
The file follows specification and validates

Cursed forest biome can't be turned off 1.16

Describe the bug
After changing the spawn weight of the cursed forest in the herobrine-common.toml file, I still managed to find it.

Expected behavior
The biome shouldn't spawn if its weight is set to 0.

Environment

  • Minecraft Version: 1.16.5

Getting attacked by infected mobs crashes game

Whenever you get attacked by a mob that is infected the game crashses if it hurts you. Doesnt crash when you hurt it.

  1. Activate Herobrine Altar
  2. Find or spawn infected mob
  3. aggro it or let it attack you
  4. The game should crash

Forge:35.1.10

The only mod I had installed was this one.

World Save Data doesn't sync properly when changing dimensions

Describe the bug
When the player changes dimensions world save data from this mod sometimes doesn't sync properly. This bug only has been observed to happen occasionally when traveling between the Nether and Overworld and not yet observed to happen with The End.

To Reproduce
Travel to the Nether and attempt to summon Herobrine after activating an altar of herobrine in the overworld.

Expected behavior
World Save Data should be synced properly regardless of dimension.

Environment

  • OS: Windows 10 64 bit
  • Java Version: JDK 1.8.0_281 64 bit
  • Minecraft Version: 1.16.5
  • Forge Version: 36.0.1 (MDK Environment)
  • Mod Version: 0.5.4

Additional context
I plan on reworking World Save Data in the 0.6 update. I may make an updated 0.5.5 update after I do so. This rework may or may not be compatible with existing nbt save data files from current/previous versions of the mod. If it's not compatible I'll likely release an nbt file that activates Herobrine in the world so players don't have to re-summon Herobrine.

Customable Survivors Weapons, Armor, and Trades through Datapacks/Resource Packs

Description
Being able to customize survivor's weapons, armor, and trades through datapacks or resource packs would be really helpful and fun!

Example being, having survivors who are just starting out trading stacks with no armor and only stone tools, trading for iron and wood.
Can really add to the missing immersion, and make trading for the Herobrine related items rarer and harder if you need to find a survivor who manage to survive that long.

Herobrine Mobs Tracking Player

Describe the bug
When you get targeted by a mage Herobrine, you occasionally get "launched up" and teleport close to his position (or at least it appears that way). If you're on something like a horse and you get "lauched up," you automatically get dismounted off the horse but you leave a sort of ghost behind. Any mob that was targeting you will instead go up to the horse and tilt their heads up, as if targeting you if you were still on the horse. Weirdly enough, they can sometimes hit the 'ghost' that stays above the horse, which will actually damage the real you.

To Reproduce

  • Tame and get on a horse (didn't test for things like minecarts or boats yet)
  • Find and get close to a Mage Herobrine
  • Make him use his "teleport" ability
  • Results

Expected behavior
When you get teleported, you should expect any hostile mobs that targeted you (even vanilla ones) to target a "ghost" you on top of the horse.

Biome blacklist

Description
Blacklist for biomes/dimensions in which any Herobrine won't spawn at all

Concept Art
When installing datapack like "The Bracken Pack", which adds a dimension where there shouldn't be any mobs at all (the Void), an extremely large number of Herobrines appear there. I know that it's impossible to reduce their number, so it would be useful to be able to completely disable spawning of Herobrine in specific biomes/dimensions.

Mobs from the mod appear Invisible when used in Multiplayer

I put the mod on a private server for a few friends and I, and everything seemed to work fine at first, the structures and everything appeared fine. But eventually, once the Mobs started spawning, nobody except for me could see them, including the versions of Herobrine himself. After restarting the server, then nobody could see them, not even me. This server has multiple mods on it, so it could be some kind of conflict, but at the same time, I don't think any of the mods on the server would conflict with this one, since they all do pretty isolated things.

Also, the lag was cut down majorly once I removed the mod, so it was causing some type of lag. Is this a known issue, or is it something that I'm personally doing wrong?

EDIT: I'm using 1.12.2 for all of this.
EDIT 2: We switched some mods out, and I decided to bring this one back to experiment. It didn't cause any lag, however, the mobs were still invisible to everyone but me.

Some suggestions to make this mod a bit more spooky and nostalgic

Hello, I love this mod and I think its great but there are some areas that I think should improve.

One way we can make this mod a whole lot scarier is if the herobrine stalker instead of running away disapears after a little bit with smoke particles if you look at him. It could also play some spooky cave ambience when it does so. The herobrine stalker should also spawn more frequently than the other herobrines.

Spooky ambience can also play when a herobrine builder constructs something. He should also disappear when complete.

Another feature this mod can have is in the config to make it so that you spawn herobrine in the old mod. This could either be with the column with the herobrine netherrack in the middle or the classic 3x3 altar.

server freeze possible caused by this mod?

I don't have much to go on because there's no information in any logs or anything but removing this mod seems to have fixed it.
I was exploring in a singleplayer world when I noticed the chunks had stopped generating. One Probe said "waiting for server" and general game logic was completely frozen. I had to force it closed with task manager and tried approaching that same location from multiple sides but each time the same thing happened. I began removing all mods that add entity spawns and world gen mods one by one and removing this one seemed to have fixed it.

Minecraft: 1.15.2
Forge: 31.1.77
this mod: 0.4.3

Survivor UI is EXTREMELY Glitchy

I'm playing with this mod on a server with my friends, and we found that you can dupe the bought items due to several glitches with the UI for the Survivor. Like, as I type this, my friend found a somewhat consistent tech to dupe gold blocks by having a few stacks of iron ingot and shuffling around the iron ingots in his inventory after purchasing a gold block and all of the iron would re-appear and he could keep doing it getting infinite gold blocks. you can also dupe diamonds from the survivor and probably all the other stuff too given how glitchy it is. I would recommend finding another mod that uses a villager-esque inventory, for instance, villagers plus, and figuring out how they do it since, no offense intended, whatever code is going on here is not working out.

World data does not properly sync when changing dimensions and going back to the overworld

When the player changes a dimension and comes back to the overword the world data does not sync and the game defaults back to where Herobrine can not spawn. It is a confirmed issue in 1.12.2, but unknown if it exists in 1.14.4 and 1.15.2. This has already been fixed in 0.5.2 and the same patch was applied to the 1.14.4 and 1.15.2 ports in case this issue does exist in those versions.

Curing infected mobs

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
there isn't any way to cure infected mobs.

Describe the solution you'd like
maybe curing infected mobs could work like curing a zombie villager but with holy water and an enchanted golden apple.

1: you splash the holy water on the mob

2: feed enchanted golden apple

3: wait 2-5 minutes

4: profit

Describe alternatives you've considered
craft 8 holy waters and an enchanted golden apple to get a "Healing Thing" basically a cross. but it's the mojang logo
