Rather than forking text/template, why not pre-process the template to strip offending newlines?

I know this almost entirely a copy of source code from Go—the files have leading comments referencing the LICENSE file. Assuming you release it under the same license, could you add the LICENSE file to the project for sake of legal formalities? Since it's a dependency of kingpin I need to dot the "i"s here.

Could you cut a minor release for this project? The issue is that go build infers a pseudo version for your module. This is an issue since Go's check sum db has an entry for github.com/alecthomas/[email protected] but for some reason your module's pseudo version is github.com/alecthomas/[email protected].
