helping.funders's Introduction

helping.funders

Helping funders and researchers by creating a list of a researcher's publication output using R and shiny. It can also be used to create a combined list for a group of researchers by uploading a file with multiple ORCID IDs (see example.file.txt).

The main file is orcid.R, which takes an ORCID ID and creates the publiction data. See global.R for a list of required R packages. The key R package is rorcid.

download button

Having a look at the code and the shiny app:

Maybe a download button would be good as sounds like you're targeting non-technical types and they'd probably want to download a spreadsheet?

add a license

please license the tool, such that we can re-use it.

just push "add a document" button, call it liscence and you will be able to choose one. (MIT is a standard one for code.)

We will then be able to fork and make some modification without liability issue ;)

Show books

Show books in list rather than "NA" in journal, example DOI: 10.1002/9783527686063

Remove earlier versions of a paper

Remove duplicate papers where there was a new version and the title changed, e.g., DOI 10.12688/f1000research.15522.1. Remove the earlier version, keep the later one.

order by first authorship

Would there be a way to recognize first or last authored papers and order the list accordingly? Also is it possible to filter for papers (orcid can also list posters and other stuff as long as it has a doi...)

the export would look like:
first authored papers:

last authored papers:

other contributions:

Identifying preprint papers

I've added a rough way to find bioRxiv papers (based on the publisher), but this needs to be improved. Also, other preprint archives need to be added.

fail well

to fail well for a nice user experience, maybe validate ORCID ID input? maybe there's a shiny widget that does that kind of thing already? or just do manually, e.g., right now 0000-0001-6339-03745 gives Error: 404 - Not found : No entity found for query which I understand, but i imagine others won't know what they did wrong (in this case just an extra digit on the end of the ID)
