addiction-ontology's Issues

[term suggestion] substitutional + additive use

type: feature request
category: terms
priority: low
source: non-academic, de
pcoi: stake-holder=1.0, financial=0.0, misinformation-prevalence=1.0

I'd like to propose two entity variations. Mainly to avert some ambiguity, which observably is more pronounced in scicomm than publications.
Unclear if those additions would fit in the ontology, and there might already be similar proposals in Not_yet_classified_Defs (joint trajectory, polysubstance, moderating effect). Also, admittedly I'm looking at this opportunely for reuse with an NLP entity ruler.
(Via Github, since Qeios definitions are best left to domain experts.)

Label: substitutional use

Informal definition: Substance use that quantitatively displaces one for another.
Comment: For instance using electronic cigarettes whilst reducing daily combustible use from e.g. 30 to 10 or similar such.
Parent: dual use
Synonyms: substitutional dual use
Usage: positive/negative value
Considerations: The concept is certainly covered in existing litarature, while no common term might have emerged yet. Would mostly just add specificity. I'm assuming there are leaf-picking tendencies for manual lookups, but less so for reasoning queries.
There's also overlap with 629 (reduction in cigarettes per day) or other data items, and could as well be inferred from tobacco use pattern. So this is foremost an explication on dual use. While observational, it connotates some intent.
Motivation: Dual use is frequently used as derogatory phrase. Although in literature typically an artifact of binary survey points.

Label: additive use

Informal definition: Co-use that doesn't alter/reduce primary or preceding substance consumption.
Comment: Combinatorial use along comparable intoxication/stimulant class, specifically when it does not (measurably) reduce either.
Parent: dual use
Synonyms: additive dual use, additory use(?)
Usage: positive/negative value
Considerations: Definition requires more clarity to not encompass e.g. coffein and nicotine combination (and amplification). Still should enclose alchol and GHB coupling for instance. Somewhat confident that's an established concept in the wider addiction field, thus worth spelling out. It would certainly be a sibling of substitutional, even if the same overhang with data items applies.
Motivation: Would certainly be required for parity. It seems sensible for deframing the colloquial/implied allegation (CT→NVP) of increased substance use - by designating an agreeable term for actual cases.

Label: transitional use

Informal definition: Dual substance or delivery usage which is an undesired function of habituation, commitment, and risk perceptions.
Comment: For NVP transition, where an initial acclimatisation or device configuration / unexpected dependency profile requirements beget or prolong dual use.
Parent: substance use pattern (?)
Synonyms: -
Usage: positive/negative value
Considerations: This already swerves too far into the interpretative realm. And would induce a few more alterations or related entities, like transient use. While lapse * concepts are already covered, and more succinctly expressed through 0000129. Else could have adjacented both dual use proposals.
But the definition now seems too broad, should probably go into a rejected list (documentation purposes, I'm assuming unused definitions shouldn't be retained in the RDF).
Motivation: Offered itself as related term.

P.S.: For Qeios-imported terms, could the OWL declarations include a reference like <rdfs:seeAlso rdf:datatype="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema#anyURI">doi:10.32388/MVLSBO</ or similar mapping?
(Not sure if the API yields any data['crossReference'] entries, or that's just not recorded yet.)
