Useful tool for Windows taskbar customization. Supports color effects, transitions, blur, images, text, rounded corners, shapes, transparency and a new HTTP API. Now rewritten in .NET 6!

Conflicts with TranslucentTB! Close it before running RainbowTaskbar

Getting started

First off, grab yourself the hottest new release at https://github.com/ad2017gd/RainbowTaskbar/releases.

RainbowTaskbar is a portable app, so there's no installing required. If not already installed, you will be prompted to install the .NET 6 runtime (x64; x86).

After launching the app for the first time, you will automatically get the Rainbow preset. To open the editor/change your preset, locate the tray icon on your taskbar.

Have fun using RainbowTaskbar!

Thank you for 100 stars

A sincere thank you to all the users of RainbowTaskbar! Since the first release of this program in 2021, I would have never expected it to have as many users as it has now.

RainbowTaskbar has really been a passion project of mine all this time. It all started thanks to my friend telling me about the fact that, at the time, there weren't any really good taskbar customization software (actually there were and still are but none would fit my personalization needs).

The first version of RainbowTaskbar was written in C, which was a pretty bad idea. I didn't realise at the time, but the UI was also pretty much garbage. However, when I saw open source software websites reposting my tool, it really gave me the motivation to still work on this program.

Thanks to my other friend, zCri, we both rewrote RainbowTaskbar to the current v2 .NET version, which allowed me to implement even more features with cleaner UI.

After the rewrite, RainbowTaskbar received even more attention from people, which also made me continue updating it. However, all the attention has also led to some copies of this software being sold on markets such as the Microsoft Store by other people, stripping it of all the credits.

If you wish to support me in the future development of this app and, perhaps, other apps, you can buy RainbowTaskbar from the Microsoft Store which is actually published by me, or by donating on PayPal. I thank you once again for using this software.

rainbowtaskbar's Issues

not working

this app doesn't work at all. idk if im just dumb but i can't figure it out

Rainbow hovering ABOVE default Windows Taskbar?

Not sure if this is just my computer, if this has something to do with the new update (2023-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5023706) or 2023-03 .NET 6.0.15 Update for x64 Client (KB5024670)), or if I just need to re-login to my computer, but the rainbow now hovers ABOVE the taskbar instead of BEING the taskbar...

task caos

my task doesnt get translucid or opacity and keeps change color ramndonmly

Add Version Number

Add the ability to see the version number: In the app, Hovering the mouse over the file adding File version:, and when you compress zip your file - when uploading that preserves your original date & time as another way to identify versions matching that to your Releases. Thnx.

Replace the config preview with labels

image

This looks too confusing to new users. Should be replaced with labels and maybe some formatting. Or could be completely rewritten to look even better (won't happen most probably)

For example the above image can be replaced with something like :

Enable blur
Set RainbowTaskbar transparency to 20
Linear 50ms fade gradient from #ff0000 to #ff9a00 for 1ms
...

Feel free to comment on this issue if you have any other suggestions (or objections).

Easier way to Exit & Quit to default/Customize mutiple units [Feature Request]

When you Right Click Exit, Task Bar remains transparent to the Windows blue, Restart to get the Task Bar back to default Black. Can a option be added to return to default?

Those with 2 or more units, a easy menu way to customize, so you have a different color scheme for each unit, making it easier to tell which unit immediately is which. Ideal for multiple units, to set a color, scheme, to label them.

Win Taskbar Start

The application is not start when windows 11 start. In the settings I check "Run at system startup"

Updating version erases presets.

No option to undo Taskbar transparency?

I applied transparency to the taskbar in Win 11, but there doesn't seem to be a way to revert it. I tried apply it at 100% and that didn't work, set style back to default, but that failed as well. Also it makes the pinned icons transparent as well, other wise it'd be fine the way it is. Can this be fixed?

Transparency

When trying to make the taskbar transparent it make the icons transparent too.

Rainbow Taskbar no longer working. Whether I try to click on a preset or create a new taskbar color/effect, nothing happens. Eventually popped up with this (trying to figure out how to insert a photo on here.) Using on Windows 11 Pro.

In Windows 10, with 2 monitors, upon waking up from hibernation the second monitor has a ghosting duplicate of the RainbowTaskbar effect positioned directly above the taskbar.

Win Taskbar Tool v2.3.0.1

ATTN Customer Service Team:

Greetings,
I recently purchased, from the Microsoft App Store. Win Taskbar Tool. There seems to be an issue with the app not running at Start Up.
In the settings I have enabled [checked] the " Run at startup" option and clicked "Save." When I turn on my PC and the computer has gone through sequence. The Taskbar still shows the Win 11 default set theme color, and the App doesn't appear, on the taskbar tray.
I have to manually open Win Taskbar Tool, In the edit tab select the Transparent mode, which I set, with Opacities values set to my desired preference.
I have to click on " Taskbar Style v " select Taskbar Opacity, [which is set at 50%] or any of the options in the drop-down list all set to 50%. Only when I click on it is when the Taskbar become transparent. I have to do this every time I turn on the PC.
I have had the Win Taskbar Tool installed now for 4 days. The Transparency works just as described. I even gave the App 5 stars, on the MS App store. I thought this would fix the issue, because after I gave the 5-star rating. There was a notice that indicated " stated" The app would now have advanced options. Did not have any other options listed on the app UI LOL!!!
However, my only disappointment is the app not showing up in the taskbar tray, to get to the settings easily and the taskbar transparency not engaging [applied] at startup as it should.

Can Your team please fix this issue. It is a paid app. It gives the Windows 11 a nice look. Your assistance on this issue will be greatly and sincerely appreciated.

Thanks, R.B.

Great App! Some quick thoughts and questions

First off, thank you for the work you've put into this app :)

I was looking for a way to apply a png as a texture on the taskbar while retaining the modern acrylic look. I initially started with Windhawk with the taskbar styler mod, but I could only get it to a apply a fill color

Then I found RainbowTaskbar, which unless I've missed something, is the only app outside of Stardock apps that can actually apply an image! Much cool :D

I noticed the layering system right away, and tried to use that to apply my png on top of the taskbar at ~50% transparency, but it seems like the png applies to the underlay? The documentation didn't explicitly say how it works. I wanted the png to be behind the buttons but on top of the acrylic layer, is that currently possible? In any case, I've got it mostly how I want now, and I can always tweak the image a little to suit the taskbar better

I also noticed that opening and closing the start menu sometimes (but not always) causes the taskbar to flicker, with the image very obviously going from 0% transparency to 100% and then back down to its set value very quickly. Is that a me problem, or did I run into an actual bug? It seems to be related to the changing focus state, so if I click off the taskbar or start menu, or launch an app from the start menu it will flicker, but if I press the win key twice or click the button twice it seems to be fine. (Windows 11 22621.2715, Explorerpatcher Windows10 Taskbar)

lastly, do you intend on/will you consider adding a toggle for the tray icon? I can hide it myself with advancedRun, but its always nice to not have to add yet another bat file to my list of startup tasks

thanks again and best wishes to you!!
cheers

Win Taskleiste -Tool

Hi there, no more clear type appearance since last Windows 11 Update last week. Best regards, ErolCel

Not Working

Was working then all of a sudden stopped and not sure why.
Will somewhat work with transparency settings turned on, but it shows up underneath the translucent setting. If the setting is turned off, nothing happens at all,
