I like this simulation of the Wii game and I've played it for a couple hours already.
Level 9 is super hard so these 2 changes would help me continue the game.
I believe it is accurate to the Wii game that it made you start again from Level 1, but that does become very tedious quickly - checkpoints are something that game always needed tbh.

I can't find an option to shoot using any of the keys, so I have to pause and tap the trackpad to shoot. This means that unless I try using a mouse or something, I can't move and shoot at the same time like I can in the Wii version, which makes Level 9 even tougher.

Not sure if those are easy fixes or if you have time, but if you do then those would definitely make the game more enjoyable (could even end up being an improvement on the Wii version).
