Hi,
qtox no longer depends on GCC 4.9, which is an indication that your overlay might be outdated. Could you maybe try again after running layman -S?

Thank you for your quick reply!
I wrote above that
qtox only needs >=gcc-4.8.0
and online in github in line 20 (https://github.com/fr0stycl34r/gentoo-overlay-tox/blob/master/net-im/qtox/qtox-9999.ebuild) I can still find that line
">=sys-devel/gcc-4.8.0"
I did the syncing with layman -S anyway, as you suggested:
the line in qtox ebuild didn't change for me and there's no difference in venom-av build failure...
maybe I now try downgrading gcc in a slot from 4.9/4.8 to stable 4.7.3-r1, will report...

Sorry to say venom-av ebuild also fails with gcc-4.7.4 here.

Can you re-emerge net-libs/tox? From here it looks like an issue with the core being out of date.

Sorry, couldn't answer the last days.
But you were right again, reemerging net-libs/tox-9999 did the trick.
This is something I have to keep in mind with 9999 ebuilds; lots of changes in development also in the libraries the ebuilds rely on.
