I don't consider myself as a zigbee expert - I'm more a generalist software architect and home automation amateur. So I'm not the best person to explain exactly how it's working.

But my understanding is the network will try to balance itself. The best way to have a strong network is to have routers and many routes from your coordinator and battery-powered devices.

Each time you add a router on your network, it's addid around 15-20 devices capacity to your network. If you don't have such devices, I recommend to buy some Ikea outlet or - better- devices like the Ikea TRΓ…DFRI Signal repeater. They are cheap and pretty efficient...

Thanks for the suggestion.. what hardware do you try?

I think a number count could be a good feature to implement anyway :)

You need to know those limits, which can chance according to a lot of things, including the firmware version of your device.

And having a network were you're close to the limit will lead to network instability, specially when a router is offline.

Where do you want to see this information? On the devices list? In the device page?

Hi

I think to begin with device list is the easiest.

The map is nice, but it's very hard to get an overview and count connections. A list will make everything easier to understand.. (Csv export could be nice?) :)

I'm not sure how zigbee routing/connections works here.
Are all secondary paths/connections "counted" in the same way as primary?
What happens when limit is reached.. (just no more connections?)

I hope it work's that way. I have a lot of routers so that's not a problem... (when i retire the ikea gw, it will be around 60 units totaly)

But as we have no say in how the mesh is forming, we have to hope it does not always favor connections to the coordinator..

We also have to consider latency forming in a bigger network... We probably should try to stay under a certain amount of hops.

Anyway a list of connections per device (and maybe primary/secondary) routing information if available will help to narrow down issues :)

Maybe you should try zigbee 3.0. I'm already running it in my lab and it's working very well.

I would also be interested in this feature. At least showing the total amount of registered device (like zigbee2mqtt does on startup) would be very useful. πŸ˜‡

Is there any reason why this is still tagged with a question @carldebilly ? πŸ™ˆ
