There are currently three levels of changelog:

  • The generated release notes, for every release
  • The changelog.md, which contains the most interesting tidbits
  • The blog, which is usually only done when we have major releases or long-awaited features

We don't have good automation at the moment that enforces / generates the last two, so we sometimes forget them.

I find this a little weird. There is a blog post about version 4.0, but nothing after that https://yarnpkg.com/blog.

How does the team coordinate what goes into the next version?

I think the version for the yarn package is found in here: https://github.com/yarnpkg/berry/blob/master/packages/yarnpkg-cli/package.json, but the history of that file is just 'sync from master' or an bot releasing packages: https://github.com/yarnpkg/berry/commits/master/packages/yarnpkg-cli/package.json.
