just tried the code example on python 2.7.6 32bit wx 2.8.12.1.
And has none of the issues listed above

Can you try a 3.0 version of Classic?

just tried on Python 2.7.12 , '3.0.2.0 msw (classic)'.
now the same issue arises

That's kind of what I figured. It seems likely that this is a wxWidgets issue, not anything in wxPython itself.

closing this.. I think this issue (or a related one to double buffering) has already been raised on wxWidgets and patched. I will submit one otherwise.
