Scoped search can be used with ActiveRecord relations. If I remember correctly, acts_as_taggable creates relations like these:

class Model < ActiveRecord::Base
  has_many :taggings
  has_many :tags, :through => :taggings
end

You can search these relations using scoped search as follows:

class Model < ActiveRecord::Base
  has_many :taggings
  has_many :tags, :through => :taggings

  # Use the "tag" field in the "tags" table/relation
  scoped_search :in => :tags, :on => :tag
end

Model.search_for('tag').each { |m| ... }

Note that this will require two joins for every search you perform using scoped search. This can become very slow if you have a lot of records in these tables. Make sure to set indices properly. It might be a good idea to cache the tags in a "tag_list" column in your model after all.

Please let me know if this helps.

from scoped_search.

scoped_search :in => :tags, :on => :tag

Worked for me
