I renamed the folder "DTD" to "schemas" and added there also the BITS 2.0.
I added in the main catalog a mapping for the schemas:
<systemSuffix systemIdSuffix="BITS-book2.xsd" uri="../BITS-2.0-XSD/BITS-book2.xsd"/>
Not sure if I would need to add more mappings, I do not have sample BITS files using the schemas to look at how the schemas are usually referenced.
