Thanks for providing this - it's just what I needed.
I think the calculation for centering the mask may be incorrect - some of the minus signs should probably be plusses:

Also maybe we should include the border-width in those calculations. I couldn't be bothered to write it all out in my code, and since I knew my border width was 1 I just subtracted 1 at the end of each line :)
