Just wanted to add the latest twist.
Went with my "plan B" involving the use of #include
with a remote tarball. The tarball appears to be downloaded but an error appears which indicates a problem creating the container.

All said, I think I'm probably going to get ghetto with this and just use a Dockerfile with an ADD to wget or curl the tarball and RUN to exec out and untar it.
Seems like the only workable solution ATM.
