Settings.json still shows up on GitHub Desktop even though it's ignored about open-project-1 HOT 6 CLOSED

I know, I think it's because in Git once a file is tracked, it will be even if it's subsequently included in the .gitignore. You need a specific Git command to make Git forget the file. I'll look into it when I have time!

I think you refer to this command:
git rm --cached <file>
