Hi, I'm an internet stranger who stumbled upon this issue. I would recommend maybe installing imgBot to your repo so image optimization is automated as you make commits/PRs. It's free in the marketplace. :)

Though ImgBot does reduce the file size slightly, it doesn't do it enough for our use case. I think the main issue is that it's not adjusting the length and width size of the image. We'll have to play around with the optimum size for the slide show content and logo. It doesn't appear ImgBot has a configuration option for that.

Just using ImageMagick seems like it could be the best solution. It might be simplest to have just a quick command to run via the command line, though I could see an argument for using a short Python or JavaScript script if someone feels like it would be better.
