More info:
The mod Red Alerts has an identifier of "Red Alerts" which has a space. Trying to install any other mod with a space in the identifier ( Stainless Steel Wagon, and Squeak Through) causes the same error.

The exception is probably thrown at https://github.com/trakos/CFAN/blob/master/Core/Factorio/CfanModuleIdAndVersion.cs#L28 but I can't seem to get it to build so I'm unable to test workarounds.
I also don't see why the module identifier is not allowed to have spaces. Is this required because of how CFAN stores the mods under different filenames? Is this limitation around in CKAN?

I initially thought spaces won't occur in ids, my bad. I fixed it one place before, but left in the one you've linked. I'm going to bugfix it today. Thanks for submitting.
By the way, what was your problem with building?
