Thanks for the suggestion.
I actually work for Microsoft, so I wouldn't feel comfortable going out of my way to publish it onto another platform without fully understanding the implications.
The workaround to download it manually, or to build the extension locally seems ok for now. This project is MIT licensed.
A note that you can disable any telemetry https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/getstarted/telemetry
If you do have any specific concerns about privacy, I work closely with the product teams in VS code so I can bring this up directly.
