Right, you can't actually split the SystemRandom generator since it is just an infinite list at this point (lazy IO streaming values). I think the SystemRandom documentation says as much but will check in a bit.

Probably true, looking at the underlying implementation. The error NotEnoughEntropy was unhelpful - NeedsInfiniteSeed would have perhaps been better. I'll follow up with a PR.

SystemRandom doesn't indicate that it doesn't support split although, from reading the docs more closely, it's missing other things and appears to be a bit unsafe so I'll avoid it in future.

Closing and submitting haskell-github-trust/crypto-api#25 instead.

No more unsafe than your typical lazy IO which uses the same operations, which is the right way to do it IMO. Thanks for the patch and comments.
