I'm on Linux, I tried both downloaded release and compiling (though maybe I missed a build flag?)

Have a look at BUILD.md and config.mk - you'll need to build with TERMINAL set to YES, so e.g. make TERMINAL=YES

Tried with make TERMINAL=YES and by setting TERMINAL := YES in config.mk: still no -t option.
