spot-the-capital.js's Introduction

Spot-the-Capital.js

A javascript based mini game which aims to combine aspects of knowledge and reaction time to help learning the captial cities in a joyful way.

This game is created as part of my studies at the Cork Institute of Technology. It pertains to the course 'Interactive Activities' of 'Multimedia B.A.'.

spot-the-capital.js's Issues

Users don't understand that they have to play by keyboard

User testings have shown up, that some users don't understand that they actually have to press a key on the keyboard to interact with the game. Most known mistake is that users try to interact with the mouse (click) instead. Sometimes the users did not read the instructions at the start page.

A solution could be to display a sentence like "Press your Key when you spot a capital" at the beginning of each game.

Ghostbees

Sometimes especially after a capital is getting spotted just after the country has changed, there appear more than the set amount of bees (standard: 5). Because these additional bees are not related to an object, they appear with some issues. E.g. they usually don't disappear when showing the result screen. Additionally errors which result in wrong scorings (especially wrong penalties) are possible.
