Why do we have the .in extension on the ruby version file?
The file could not be required in cli file and none of the specs would run, so I decided
to copy it and remove the .in extension so I could run all of the specs.

The .in extension is part of the way we distribute gitsh using GNU autotools.
You should run:
./autogen.sh
./configure
make
I'll update the contributing guide to add these undocumented steps.
