The solution is simple:

env.rb

module Cucumber
  module Rails
    class World
      include FactoryGirl::Syntax::Methods
    end
  end
end

If you just include it at the root level of env.rb, you're actually including those methods on Object. Cucumber steps take place inside of Cucumber::Rails::World.

hey @Bricker88, you don't actually want to include FactoryGirl::Syntax::Methods since it'll add those methods to Object. Instead, you'll want to call World(FactoryGirl::Syntax::Methods) as recommended in the GETTING_STARTED doc (https://github.com/thoughtbot/factory_girl/blob/master/GETTING_STARTED.md#using-factories, where we discuss how to mix the syntax methods in).
