Yes, the rake script should handle both group and user synchronization.

You probably have something misconfigured.

Make sure you have the Group base DN correctly configured and try both
the "on the group class" and "on the user class" configurations shown on
the readme.md file.

• Group membership = on the group class | {on the user class}
• Group name attribute (group) = sAMAccountName
• Members attribute (group) = member
• Memberid attribute (user) = dn
• Account control flags (user) = userAccountControl
• Account disabled test = flags.to_i & 2 != 0
• Groups attribute (user) = --- | {memberof}
• Groupid attribute (group) = --- | {distinguishedName}
• Groups objectclass = group
• Users objectclass = user
• Nested groups = membership on the parent class | {membership on the
  member class}
• Member groups attribute (group) - member
• Memberid attribute (group) - distinguishedName
• Parent groups attribute (group) - --- | {memberof}
• Parentid attribute (group) - --- | {distinguishedName}
