I think this can handle the multiple brnach problem, but for perfoemance.
E.g i take as Dn a the parent root of both branches and the filter groups based on group filter which allows "OR" syntax.

THis plugin https://github.com/whqcd/redmine_ldap_adv_auth goes another way, and does no import "unknown" groups in a tree structure by filter, bute you add know groups manually in redmine and users get assigned on login on the fly.

So you add groups in redmine and then add groups with roles in projects. I will try that and give feedback, but you and "whqcd" should work together to make the best of both ;)

Thank you for pointing me to the plugin.
I've picked some of their ideas and released a new version that includes some of them.

• Group search filter as you suggested
• The ability to enable/disable the creation of new groups
• The ability for filter user access by group membership

Unfortunately I'm not able to detect group membership for nested groups.
They are using a feature that is only supported on Active Directory.
