No, you don't need to sync manually. An user's groups are synchronized by user logon.

You'll only need the rake task to synchronize the full list of users.
The task creates/disables users and syncs the all user's groups.

What happens if i change the email ( or name) in redmine or the email email ( or name) is change in ldap, does that update the redmine user? I am unsure what redmine does on default ldap adapter also.

Right now it only does the default.
The user attributes are updated when the user is created.
Which means that after creation if the user changes its name or email address in the changes are not reflected in ldap neither the other way back.

I've seen some requests on the redmine's forum and I'm considering in adding a flag to enable the synchronization of some of the attributes. But it will always be one sided. No updates will be done to the ldap directory.

That's clear. But ldap to redmine makes a lot sense, e.g only authenticated emails can get information.
