Use this driver with 3.4.xx linux kernel.

Yes, if this is the ultimate limit that can be done to making Intel's cedarview-drm run on latest Linux kernel releases, then there's no other recourse but to go long-term support kernels.

I port this to 3.10.14 and succesfully build the driver, just need to test and fix some code in the TTM part.

@kerpzCould you please provide a patch?

kerpz avatar kerpz commented on August 21, 2024

You can try my fork of this repo, but I haven't tried to load the module, I just compile it against 3.10.14.

Hello, sorry my job keeps me very busy ATM. Thanks for your work kerpz.
When your patch has been tested successfully on real hardware, it whould be nice to notify here and/or create a pull request.
As my netbook runs lubuntu, i think i will finally look at new kernel versions after lubuntu 13.10 release.

Hi guys, got it working on a N2800 cedarview system. I'll try to port it with the native drm/ttm of the vanilla 3.10.

thomas001 avatar thomas001 commented on August 21, 2024

I tried that with an earlier kernel version, but failed. I got it compile, but never got it work. I think my old stuff is im my cdv repository.
Nevertheless, good luck!

Tested on Gentoo ~x86, linux-3.10.16. Works as expected.

I found some time to look at the code. Seems like the API for putting stuff in /proc has changed. I am no kernel expert, so i cannot fix this in cedarview-drm. Luckily, the driver uses /proc only for debugging purposes. I just removed the whole /proc interface from the driver. I found this a better way then leaving compiling, but broken, code in the repo.

Thanks for your work kerpz, it helped a lot.

I put a version that works with ubuntu' s 3.11 kernel in the linux-3.11 branch.

That's great 👍 Maybe its time for me to move to 3.11 as well. Thanks to you guys too.

The TI 5.00.00.01 Linux Graphics SDK Alpha has Linux 3.12 support. Perhaps you can use some of the changes done there. See https://github.com/RobertCNelson/ti-sdk-pvr/tree/master/Graphics_SDK/GFX_Linux_KM/services4/srvkm/env/linux for Linux 3.10 proc.c and proc.h changes.
