Interesting...
I've updated Chipmunk sources because of this:
http://www.slembcke.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=254

I've just seen that version 4.1.0 was released, so I will use it instead of r38.

Chipmunk is now hosted here:

it seems that chipmunk 4.1.0 is the one that I put in cocos2d v0.5.0.

I suggest asking in chipmunk forums why your code works OK with v4.0.2 and not
with
v4.1.0

WONT-FIX / INVALID since cocos2d v0.5.0 ships with latest support chipmunk
version.
I will update chipmunk sources when a new version is released.

My code is based on the chipmunk_accel demo.

The chipmunk_accel demo is also broken by Chipmunk 4.1.0 (i.e. its not just my
code).
The objects in chipmunk_accel also no longer bounce off the edges of the screen or
each other. I believe elasticity is somehow broken/changed in Chipmunk 4.1.0
so the
chipmunk_accel demo also needs to be updated.

For me I need to release a bugfix for my code and so I did roll the Chipmunk
folder
from cocos2d-0.4.3 into the cocos2d-0.5.0 folder (I guess that means I'm running
cocos2d-0.5.0 with Chipmunk 4.0.3) and both my code and the chipmunk_accel demo
work
again.

Somehow folks should know at least that the chipmunk_accel demo is not working
anymore.

There is a thread on it here, it seems we are not alone:
