Did you look all the way back to the last release? 74476c1 is important, and c2ff62b is probably also worth mentioning... they're both tarsnap-dies errors which quite a few people tripped over (although the second one I agree has a vague git commit message).

I think my focus for release notes was more towards new features (or funny bugfixes, such as files over 68 years old). I saw 74476c1 but didn't think it needed to be in the release notes. I didn't understand c2ff62b at first glance, but it didn't look like a new feature.

Fair enough. My general sense is that release notes should cover things relevant to users, regardless of whether it's new features or fixes of user-visible bugs. (But things like insignificant memory leaks can be swept into "minor bug fixes" since users are unlikely to ever run into them.)

Oh, 58ea6e2 definitely needs to be mentioned in the release notes too... "tarsnap can make linux reboot" is a nasty user-visible bug.

I think I managed to list everything important in the email I just sent to the alphatest list.
