Probably fully fixed in 089288f.
Couldn't really reproduce this bug, but fixed player names not being set in the C_Connect command. This resulted in the game always taking the name from the config file, which by coincidence could lead to the same name as the first player.
Now the names are actually being shown correctly at both parties: the opponent's name at the top half, your own name at the bottom half. If the player leaves then both the lobby and the new game playfield show correct names.
