Good point. I want to merge some source files from specific folders to shared project. So please, wait for this. Logger will be one of the files which will be moved to share project. And then we can utilize him and set path for different systems.

Ok, we have access denied on standard user on unix machines. I will investigate this later.

This may be a good way to go: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=759727 However, I don't know if this would be a good solution for all Unix distributions.

Good point! So we need to write syslog UDP client :)

starek4 avatar starek4 commented on August 20, 2024

Ok, Syslog is not a good idea. It can run on different port numbers, it doesn't have to be running and so on. We need to log to '/usr/local' or something like that. We can discuss it later, as it isn't so important for now.

No, /usr/local is not a good idea. This folder is meant for installing software, not logging. See here for more information. As the client may be executed by multiple users, I think, ~/.fly/log will do enough. And should we also restrict the program to one running instance?

starek4 avatar starek4 commented on August 20, 2024

Yeah, ~/.fly/log is good idea. And yes, we can restrict client to just one instance.

Implemented along some refactoring. Linux logs are now stored in "~/.fly/log".
