A big plus for Wasmtime is that it is a Bytecode Alliance project.

I can also add that Wasmtime has been extremely quick att responding to Github issues.

@cylewitruk what should we do with this issue? Is there an output that you'd like to define from your investigations? Do you plan to write up something in the README or in the Wiki? When can we consider this done?

Closing this issue as we have decided on Wasmtime. Performance benchmarks showing that Wasmer is slower across-the-board can be found over in my playground repo for anyone who might be interested: https://github.com/cylewitruk/wasm-test.
We can write something in the README, but I'll create a separate, more specific issue for that.
