When I add :

  dispatch_async(dispatch_get_main_queue(), ^{
                    expect(1).to.equal(2);
                });

it works, is there a best practice for this case ?

We've just hit the same issue in our code. What makes this worse for us is that our assertion is that a block IS being called on the main thread! So if the only way we can can assert that is to do the assertion on the main thread then we can never have the test fail.
