it looks like you're compiling the ESP8266 code with an outdated Arduino Core.
It's very important to have the latest installed and selected. Requirements

My deauther firmware needs the 2.0.0 version that you have installed, because newer versions only allow packet injection of certain types.
This project uses features and improvements only available in later versions.
Most importantly the Async libraries.

I guess the README.md doesn't make that detail clear enough, I will update it!

The wired connection between the atmega and esp8266 are different if you mean that.
The old ducky used serial, now it's i2c.
