InnoDB and max_allowed_packet not set for MySQL about confluence HOT 5 CLOSED

Actually, as of 5.6 (sorry: link not specific to 5.6 but to doc for latest version), recommendation is 40M. Hence should be:

[mysqld]
...
default-storage-engine=INNODB
max_allowed_packet=40M
...

At this moment Confluence supports only MySQL 5.5 and 5.6, which already use InnoDB by default.
So, the only thing we should do here is to tune MySQL settings like max_allowed_packet and innodb_log_file_size

I'm still not sure - should we hard-code these values to the templates, or it's better to allow uses to set these settings as they want. Current version of mysql cookbook allow to use custom configuration.

I would go with sane defaults + customizability unless you want users to rewrite the template in their wrapper cookbooks. (though if a user has to do that too much they might as well write their own cookbook)
