Well you did at least 3 mistakes theres.
First of all you need to understand that async function always return Promise. Second function should be called with parens. See:

const asyncTest = async () => {
    return false;
};

asyncTest// function
await asyncTest//still a function
(await asyncTest())//promise
(await asyncTest()).should.be.true()// see parens at the end of .true() <---- it will assert now
//what you want is
(await asyncTest()).should.eventually.be.true()// .eventually will switch inspection from promise to its underlying value.
