It can be used for hospitality exchange, but how well it works for that out of the box depends on what functionality is wished. For example at the OuiShareFest (https://share.ouisharefest.com) Sharetribe was used to gather offers and requests about accommodation in Paris during the event. There are simple listings to describe what is needed and offered and people can easily contact each other and agree about the details and they can give public feedback about each other etc. But some features that might be useful for hospitality exchange, like a booking calendar, Sharetribe doesn't have at the moment. But it definitely can be used, and in depending on your use case, it might be good to start with a simple solution and to add functionality as noticed necessary.

Do you have plans to install Sharetribe for that purpose?

@guaka would be great to learn more on what kind of features would be needed so that Sharetribe would support hospex better! We definitely want to support that too

http://redmine.bewelcome.org/projects/welen/wiki/Wireframe is a very technical overview of the needs for BeWelcome. Probably many parts (User, Auth) of this are already in Sharetribe, other parts (such as Poll) are not necessarily a requirement for hospex.

There are two different ways to do hospex: "push" and "pull". Push means that guests should be able to see who is capable of hosting and can write a specific hosting request to these people (a normal couchrequest on CS). Pull means an open call indicating the need to stay somewhere (like an open couchrequest on CS), after which many potential hosts can be notified about this open request.
Usually push is the common way of doing things (BW, warmshowers), CS is the only one that has implemented open requests and with the "dilution" of quality in the past years it's not so great. Still, a push mechanism could make a lot of sense for an active, tightly knit or otherwise focused sharetribe community (e.g. for a specific event).

One point is that Sharetribe is based in "listings" that can be offers or requests. Those are separated from user profiles. So it's like in Airbnb, where a flat and a user profile are different things. I have understood that in hospex the listings is often the same thing as the user profile. That might bring some complications, if Sharetribe is used for hospex. On the other hand, it might make sense to separate those in hospex also (for instance, people move from one flat to another, and it might be good that reputation is also connected to a certain flat).

Sharetribe offers both push and pull options. People can post the accommodation they can offer or add a request if they desire certain type of accommodation (you can also limit the listings to only push or pull in a certain sharetribe community).
